Final Score: Detroit 8 - Cleveland 5
Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Brandon Inge went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and three RBI as the Detroit Tigers downed the Cleveland Indians, 8-5, in the second of three games at Progressive Field.
Edgar Renteria and Gary Sheffield each had a pair of RBI while Miguel Cabrera hit a solo home run for the Tigers, who had lost three of four coming in.
Armando Galarraga (9-4) continued his excellent work on the road as he went 5 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on just five hits with a pair of walks and three strikeouts. He improved to 7-2 in 12 games (11 starts) away from Comerica Park this season. Also, he has won all three of his starts versus Cleveland this season.
Jhonny Peralta went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI while Matt Ginter (1-2) went four innings and gave up four runs on eight hits for the Indians, who have dropped five of their last seven games.
Detroit got on the board in the second inning as Cabrera led off the frame with a blast over the left-center wall for his 18th home run.
The Tigers extended their lead in the fourth. Magglio Ordonez led off with a single and later moved to third on Matt Joyce's double off the wall in left- center. After Sheffield struck out, Renteria brought both runners home with a double. Inge followed with a double to score Renteria for a 4-0 lead.
Galarraga retired the first nine batters he faced before giving up a leadoff double to Grady Sizemore in the fourth. David Dellucci followed with a double to right that scored Sizemore. But Galarraga got the next three batters out to limit the damage.
Detroit answered with two more runs in the fifth on a Sheffield double that brought home Carlos Guillen and Cabrera for a 6-1 advantage.
The Indians made it a three-run game in the sixth. After Dellucci grounded out to start the frame, Ben Francisco worked a walk and came home on Peralta's triple. Shin-Soo Choo followed with a double to center to score Peralta and make it a 6-3 game.
Cleveland again threatened in the seventh as the team got its first two runners on base. Casey Fossum came on to face Sizemore and got him to ground out to first, but both the runners moved up a bag.
Joel Zumaya then took the mound and got Franklin Gutierrez to fly out to shallow center and then induced a fly out from Francisco to end the inning.
Inge, however, got the runs back for Detroit in the top of the eighth as he blasted the first pitch he saw into the left field stands for a two-run home run, his eighth, and an 8-3 lead.
Cleveland got another man across in the eighth as Ryan Garko punched a double to left to bring home Peralta and make it 8-4.
Sizemore scored on a wild pitch in the ninth to account for the final score.
