Final Score: Arizona 7 - San Diego 3
San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Chad Tracy and Mark Reynolds each went 2- for-4 with a pair of runs batted in, and the Arizona Diamondbacks charged past the San Diego Padres, 7-3, in the rubber match of a three-game set at Petco Park.
Chris Young doubled twice and knocked in a run for the D-Backs, winners in seven of their last nine. Reynolds and Chris Snyder each homered in the win, while Orlando Hudson had a pair of hits and scored a run.
"We're playing good," Snyder said. "We're playing the way we should be playing. We're playing aggressive. Guys are running, we're putting guys in motion."
Dan Haren (11-5) rebounded from a rocky first inning to record his major league-best 19th quality start of the season, allowing three runs on seven hits in seven innings. Haren struck out six without allowing a walk.
Arizona maintained its one-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West heading into a four-game series in L.A. between the teams starting Thursday. The Dodgers blanked the San Francisco Giants, 4-0, on Wednesday.
Jody Gerut homered for the Padres, who have dropped two straight after four- game win streak. Kevin Kouzmanoff and Josh Bard added an RBI apiece.
Cha Seung Baek (3-5) allowed five runs -- four earned -- on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings while striking out five and walking one to take the loss.
Trailing 3-1 in the fifth, the D-Backs took advantage of two crucial San Diego errors to take the lead. Alex Romero led off with a double and ended up on third after left fielder Chase Headley's throwing error. Haren then hit a grounder to third, but Kouzmanoff's throw to the plate was wild as Romero scored and Haren landed on second.
"A couple balls, we just didn't put the glove on them," said Padres manager Bud Black. "I don't think any team can afford to make errors and not make plays, and that showed up in that inning."
One out later, Young ripped a double to left that tied the game. After a walk to Hudson and a Conor Jackson infield single loaded the bases, Tracy lined a two-run single to right for a 5-3 lead.
Back-to-back homers by Reynolds and Snyder put the game out of reach in the eighth, as Reynolds took Bryan Corey over the wall in dead center and Snyder followed four pitches later with a blast to the seats in left. Jon Rauch and Tony Pena were perfect over the final two innings to seal the win.
San Diego got to Haren immediately, as Gerut led off the home first with a homer to right. Singles by Luis Rodriguez and Adrian Gonzalez put runners at the corners with one out, and Kouzmanoff gave the Pads a 2-0 lead with a sac fly.
Arizona countered with a run in their next at-bat on consecutive doubles from Tracy and Reynolds, but Bard's RBI single restored the two-run cushion in the fourth.
