National League Game Summary - Arizona at Los Angeles

Final Score: Arizona 2 - Los Angeles 1

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Stephen Drew singled in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning and Randy Johnson spoiled Manny Ramirez's National League debut with another vintage start, as Arizona squeezed past Los Angeles, 2-1 in the second game of a four-game set.

The Diamondbacks took their second straight 2-1 decision over their division rival, moving three games ahead of LA in the NL West with their seventh win in eight games.

Johnson (9-7) has seemingly found the fountain of youth, winning his fifth straight start after allowing just one unearned run on five hits to go with six strikeouts in six full frames. The aging lefty also improved to 7-0 at Dodger Stadium.

"Everything is kind of falling into place," Johnson said. "My mechanics are falling into place. I have nice defense behind me and I was able to throw my first pitch for strikes."

Tony Clark hit a solo home run and Conor Jackson extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a double for the D-Backs.

Clayton Kershaw, coming off his first career win, was solid in six innings of four-hit scoreless ball. The young lefty did not factor in the decision, though, as Chan Ho Park (4-3) allowed both runs in his brief relief appearance for Los Angeles, which had won two straight coming into the series.

Ramirez, wearing number 99 and batting cleanup between Russell Martin and Jeff Kent in a trial-and-error Dodgers lineup, went 2-for-4 but came up empty as he stepped to the plate as the game-winning run in the ninth inning.

After Martin led off the frame with a single, Ramirez waltzed to the plate for a possible Hollywood finish to his debut. But Brandon Lyon didn't give the perennial All-Star anything juicy to drive, and Ramirez bounced into a 6-4-3 double play. Kent then popped out to end the game and finish off Lyon's 24th save.

"I feel great," Ramirez said despite the loss. "I was a little nervous at first, but when I got my first hit, it settled me down. I think I tried to do too much in my final at-bat. The crowd was unbelievable. I'm glad I'm here."

After 5 1/2 scoreless innings the Dodgers took the lead in the home sixth. Juan Pierre, who was pinch hitting for Kershaw, reached safely when Orlando Hudson booted his grounder at second. Johnson then had Pierre picked off, but Clark's throw to second was off the mark and the runner slid in safely. Matt Kemp followed by lining his 25th double of the season to left to bring in Pierre, ending Johnson's scoreless innings streak at 20.

After two outs were made, Ramirez beat out a check-swing infield single, but Kemp casually rounded third and tagged out in a rundown to end the frame.

Arizona took advantage of Kershaw being out of the game an inning later. Clark greeted Park with a lead-off homer that traveled just beyond the 395-foot sign to straightaway center for a 1-1 tie.

"I've never had success against Chan Ho, but he threw me a fastball down and I put a big swing on it," Clark said.

After a single and one-out walk, the Dodgers went to Joe Beimel, but the reliever yielded an RBI double to Drew that managed to stay fair down the right field line.
