Final Score: Milwaukee 9 - Atlanta 0
Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Mike Cameron hit a two-run home run and Jeff Suppan was stellar on the mound to pick up his first win since July 1, as the Milwaukee Brewers crushed the Atlanta Braves, 9-0, in the opener of a three- game set.
Suppan (6-7) tossed seven innings and gave up just five hits and three walks to record his first win at Turner Field.
"It was one of those things that you go as long as you can," Suppan said. "I felt there was a couple of situations that I got out of my rhythm."
Prince Fielder added a solo homer for the Brewers, who snapped a five-game skid. Every position player except J.J. Hardy and Corey Hart recorded a hit for Milwaukee.
Chuck James (2-4), who made his first appearance since May 15, exited after only 2 2/3 on the hill. James was touched for six runs on six hits, while walking four and fanning two. James hasn't recorded a win since April 24.
"Yeah, welcome back," James said. "I couldn't locate pitches and I couldn't find the strike zone. Wow, back at home, just wow."
Gregor Blanco had a hit for the Braves, who have dropped six of seven games. The Braves managed only five hits, none of which went for extra bases.
The Brewers got on the board in the first inning. Rickie Weeks reached on a single and Hardy followed with a walk before Ryan Braun belted an RBI double off the wall in center, missing a home run by a few feet. Fielder popped out in foul territory but Hart offered a sac fly to right, scoring Hardy and putting Milwaukee ahead, 2-0.
Milwaukee tacked on another run in the second. Jason Kendall hit a single, moved to second on Suppan's sac bunt and crossed home as Weeks legged out a triple.
Fielder crushed a one-out solo homer in the third inning. Hart then flied to right for the second out before Bill Hall worked a walk. Cameron kept it going by depositing the first pitch he saw over the wall in right, and it was 6-0.
The offenses went dormant for a few innings, until Milwaukee notched three more runs in the eighth inning off Royce Ring. Hall opened the frame with a double before Cameron was hit by a pitch. Kendall then grounded into a force, rendering Cameron out at second, and pinch-hitter Gabe Kapler clubbed an RBI single.
Weeks then walked to load the bases and Hardy reached as Omar Infante botched a throw to first, scoring two runs and giving the Brewers a 9-0 cushion.
