National League Game Summary - St. Louis at Chicago

Final Score: St. Louis 12 - Chicago Cubs 3

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Troy Glaus belted two home runs en route to a three-hit and five-RBI day to lead the St. Louis Cardinals over the Chicago Cubs, 12-3, in the second contest of a three-game set at Wrigley Field.

Skip Schumaker and Albert Pujols also homered for the Cardinals, who won for the first time in three games.

Mark DeRosa and Carlos Zambrano homered for the Cubs, who fell for just the third time in 13 outings.

Todd Wellemeyer (9-4) tossed a career-high 112 pitches as he improved to 2-0 over his last six trips to the mound. The righty allowed three runs on six hits and one walk, while striking out five in 6 2/3 innings.

Zambrano (12-5) suffered his first home loss of the season after being tagged for nine runs on 10 hits and one walk in just 4 1/3 innings. The fiery right-hander, who struck out three, was 6-0 in 12 starts in front of the home fans before this one.

"That's the hardest I've seen Z get hit the last two years I've been here," said Chicago manager Lou Piniella.

The contest was knotted at one, but the Cardinals got a pair of solo home runs in the top of the third inning and led the rest of the way. With one out, Schumaker blasted his seventh of the season to right, while Pujols made it a 3-1 affair with his 24th of the campaign two batters later.

Chicago got one run back in the bottom of the frame on a leadoff home run by Zambrano, but the Cardinals came right back with two more runs in the fourth to extend their advantage to 5-2. Felipe Lopez led off with a base hit and came around to score when Glaus smacked a two-run homer to left.

St. Louis extended its lead to 9-2 with a four-run fifth. Pujols drew a one- out walk, moved up a base on a single by Ryan Ludwick and raced home on a Lopez RBI single to right. Glaus then cleared the bases with a three-run homer to right that chased Zambrano from the game.

"We wanted to jump on his first pitch strikes so he couldn't widen the strike zone and get ahead in the count," said Glaus. "He made some mistakes and you don't get that many opportunities against him, so we took advantage."

The Cubs capped off their scoring with a run in the seventh. Geovany Soto walked with two outs, moved to second on a walk to Henry Blanco and came home on a single up the middle by Alfonso Soriano.

In the ninth, St. Louis added three runs to finalize the scoring. Ludwick drove in Cesar Izturis with a sacrifice fly and Yadier Molina plated Pujols and Joel Pineiro with a two-run single.

The Cardinals opened up the scoring in the first inning, thanks to an RBI single by Ludwick. Schumaker crossed the plate on the two-out hit after he led off the game with a double to right.

The first Chicago run came in the second to tie the game at 1-1, on a homer to center by DeRosa.
