American League Game Summary - Texas at Baltimore

Final Score: Texas 15 - Baltimore 7

Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Ian Kinsler had a career-high five hits, including a home run, with three runs scored and three RBI, as the Texas Rangers crushed the Baltimore Orioles, 15-7, to avoid a three-game sweep.

Marlon Byrd finished 4-for-6 with a home run, three runs scored and four RBI, while Josh Hamilton added a three-run homer during a 3-for-6 effort at the plate. Travis Metcalf and Jason Ellison each had two hits and two RBI to help snap Texas' four-game slide.

Matt Harrison (4-2) tossed the minimum five innings to get the win after allowing six runs on 10 hits.

Chris Waters, fresh off eight shutout innings against the Angels in his MLB debut his last time out, lasted just four innings while being tagged for six runs on seven hits and three walks. Randor Bierd (0-2) took the loss after being credited with five runs allowed without recording an out in the fifth inning.

Brian Roberts was 4-for-4 with three runs scored, two doubles and a walk, while Melvin Mora homered and drove in four for the Orioles, who had won three of four. Mora and Lou Montanez each had three hits, while Aubrey Huff added a two-run homer in defeat.

Texas pulled ahead for good by batting around in a six-run fifth inning. With Bierd on the mound, the Rangers loaded the bases with no outs, and Metcalf blooped an RBI single that fell in front of a diving Montanez in left. Ellison followed with a two-run single to end Bierd's less-than-stellar relief outing, and Lance Cormier surrendered consecutive run-scoring base hits to Kinsler and Michael Young, who left Saturday's game after aggravating a small fracture in his finger.

Byrd brought in the sixth and final run of the inning with a fielder's choice groundout, and Texas suddenly led, 12-6.

Byrd delivered again in the ninth by smacking a George Sherrill offering into the left field bleachers for a three-run shot.

After scoring in each of the first four frames, Baltimore failed to score again until Mora doubled home Roberts in the bottom of the ninth.

The Rangers broke out of a rare hitting slump with a four-run first, which matched their entire run total of the previous four games. Kinsler singled and Young worked a walk before Hamilton stepped to the plate and smashed a three- run shot over the center field wall. Metcalf added a run-scoring single later in the inning to push the Rangers ahead, 4-0.

"The pitching we have seen the last four days has shut us down, except for today," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "Good pitching does stop good hitting, but it's nice that they got a boost today and hopefully we can continue to play good baseball from this point on."

Mora cut the deficit in half in the bottom half with his second homer in as many games, a two-run shot to center.

Jay Payton opened the home second with a double and scored on Montanez's humpback single to left, and Huff gave the O's a 5-4 lead with a two-run homer in the third, which extended his hitting streak to a career-high 18 games.

Kinsler followed Ellison's leadoff walk with his 15th home run of the year to take the lead right back in the fourth, but Mora singled in Roberts in the Baltimore half of the inning to tie the game at six.
