National League Game Summary - Chicago at Atlanta, Game One

Final Score: Chicago Cubs 10 - Atlanta 2

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Geovany Soto went 3-for-5 with a two-run double and a two-run homer, leading the Chicago Cubs to a 10-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves in the opener of a day/night doubleheader at Turner Field.

Jim Edmonds also homered, drove in three runs and scored three times for the Cubs, while Mark DeRosa chipped in two hits, three runs scored and an RBI in the victory -- Chicago's sixth straight on the road.

"It's really good to pick it up on the road," said Soto about the club's recent stretch away from home.

Jason Marquis (8-7) pitched 5 1/3 innings to win his second straight start. He gave up two runs on six hits with two walks and a strikeout.

Atlanta's Charlie Morton (3-6) fell to 0-5 in six home starts this season. He was coming off seven shutout innings in a victory at Arizona six days ago, but the Cubs tagged him for four runs on four hits and four walks in 2 1/3 innings.

"He wasn't the same as last time," said Atlanta's Gregor Blanco about Morton. "The first two innings were rough for us."

Omar Infante was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Braves.

Tuesday's series-opener was rained out and the Cubs, coming off two wins in three games against division-rival St. Louis over the weekend, scored twice in the second and third innings to take control early.

The Cubs took advantage of a pair of walks to grab a 2-0 lead in the second. Edmonds led off with a free pass and DeRosa followed with another walk before Soto drilled a pitch into the right-center field gap for a double to score both runners.

Edmonds made it 4-0 in the third when he followed an Aramis Ramirez single with a drive over the wall in left field for his 16th home run.

"It's always nice to win," said Edmonds. "This has been a tough place to win in the past. It's nice to come out and score some runs."

The Braves loaded the bases in bottom of the inning on a pair of two-out walks and a single, but Brian McCann popped to short. Back-to-back doubles by Infante and Mark Kotsay in the fourth gave Atlanta its first run, but Chicago responded with three in its next at-bat.

Ramirez walked with one out in the fifth and scored on a double by Edmonds, who trotted home on a double into the left field corner by DeRosa. After Soto singled to put runners on the corners, Ryan Theriot grounded into a force out to chase home DeRosa for a 7-1 cushion.

Chicago tacked on another run in the sixth when Ramirez doubled home Alfonso Soriano, but the Braves also picked up one in the bottom of the inning on a run-scoring single by Infante.

A two-run homer by Soto off Francisley Bueno in the ninth accounted for the final margin, and Bueno was ejected later in the inning for throwing toward Soriano's head.
