American League Game Summary - New York at Toronto

Final Score: NY Yankees 5 - Toronto 1

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Andy Pettitte was dazzling on the mound and Derek Jeter had three hits, including a two-run homer, as the New York Yankees crushed the Toronto Blue Jays, 5-1, in the middle contest of a three-game set.

Pettitte (13-9) gave up just one run on five hits while fanning four over seven innings to get the win, which snapped a four-start winless streak for the lefty. Brian Bruney tossed two scoreless innings in relief.

"I really felt good with all my pitches," said Pettitte. "I felt like I was able to mix them up, I kept them off balance for the most part and got into a good rhythm."

Johnny Damon went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Yankees, who have won three of their last four games overall. Xavier Nady had a pair of hits and drove in a run and Jason Giambi added a sacrifice fly.

David Purcey (2-4) was saddled with the loss as he was touched for five runs on seven hits in four innings of work. Brian Tallet, Jesse Carlson and Jason Frasor combined to allow just three hits over the final five innings.

Alex Rios drove in the lone run for Toronto, which lost for just the second time in its last eight contests. The Blue Jays had five hits, none of which went for extra bases.

"I faced Pettitte a lot in my career," said David Eckstein. "When he has four pitches working, it's tough."

The Yankees got on the board in the first inning. The bases were loaded as Damon, Jeter and Bobby Abreu all singled to begin the frame. One out later, Giambi hit a sac fly. Nady then stroked an RBI single to right for a 2-0 Yankees lead.

New York tacked on a few more runs in the fourth frame. Robinson Cano drew a one-out walk and moved to third as Jose Molina followed with a single. Damon then grounded into a force out, which scored Cano but rendered Molina out at second.

Jeter then crushed a two-run homer, just his eighth long ball of the year, over the fence in right for a 5-0 Yankees lead. The blast was the 203rd of his career, moving him into a tie with Roger Maris for 11th place on the club's all-time list.

Three consecutive singles by Eckstein, Marco Scutaro and Rios with one away in the sixth plated a run for Toronto.
