James helps Cavaliers slide past Timberwolves

Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - LeBron James scored 30 points, dished out 13 assists and pulled down eight boards to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers in a 92-84 victory over the struggling Minnesota Timberwolves at Quicken Loans Arena.

Devin Brown added 13 points for the Cavs, who recovered from back-to-back losses to win four of their last six contests. Delonte West added 12 points and five helpers, as Damon Jones gave 11 points. Zydrunas Ilgauskas tallied 10 points and six boards, as Cleveland beat Minnesota for the fifth straight time.

The Cavs were without the services of Wally Szczerbiak, who was with his wife, Shannon; she is expecting the couple's third child.

Al Jefferson totaled 22 points and 10 rebounds for the T'Wolves, who have lost two in a row and nine of their last 11. Corey Brewer had 15 points, while Ryan Gomes had 13 and seven rebounds. Sebastian Telfair and Rashad McCants ended with 11 points each.

The clubs were even at 20 after the first, but the Cavs pulled ahead 40-36 at the break.

"It's going to help us in the long run," Brewer said of the loss. "We've got to learn to win. We're a young team with a future. We've got to try to learn to get wins like that. We're close to winning the game at the end. We've got to get some stops and make some buckets."

Ben Wallace garnered nine boards to go with his eight points.

Back-to-back buckets from Brown and Ilgauskas opened up a 49-41 Cleveland advantage just over three minutes into the second half. However, a Gomes three capped a 10-2 Minnesota run that tied things up at 51 just before the six- minute mark.

The teams exchanged baskets until the Cavs outscored the T'Wolves 7-3 to close out the stanza and take a 66-59 lead into the final 12 minutes of play. James and Anderson Varejao both hit baskets, while West drained a three on the spurt.

Brewer opened the fourth with a pair of free throws, though, a Jones trey and a three-point play from James pushed Cleveland's lead to 72-61 with 9:40 left in regulation.

Three straight buckets from McCants, Randy Foye and Jefferson brought the T'Wolves within five, 74-69, with a bit over seven minutes left.

A few minutes later, Minnesota closed within 79-75, but Wallace responded with a dunk that sparked an 11-0 Cavs run. James closed out the scoring with a dunk of his own that put the game away for Cleveland, 90-75, with 1:22 showing on the clock.

"LeBron was terrific," Cleveland head coach Mike Brown said. "I thought everybody else on down the line was terrific contributing offensively. I thought Delonte, Devin and LeBron came up with some big weak side rebounds late in the game."

Game Notes

The Timberwolves are an NBA-worst 2-25 on the road this season and have dropped 21 of their last 22 games away from the Target Center. Minnesota has also lost five straight on the road...Minnesota will host Seattle on Sunday...Cleveland will host Chicago on Sunday.
