Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Miami Heat star guard Dwyane Wade sat out of his team's game Friday night against the Golden State Warriors because of general soreness, bringing the number of healthy and available players the Heat have at their disposal to seven.
Wade has battled through pain all season since undergoing offseason knee surgery, and though he was in uniform Friday night, he didn't play in the 134-99 loss. The same was true for center Earl Barron, leaving starters Jason Williams, Marcus Banks, Shawn Marion, Udonis Haslem and Ricky Davis, and reserves Mark Blount and Chris Quinn as the seven options left for head coach Pat Riley.
NBA rules require that a team must have at least eight players dressed for a game, leading to Wade and Barron appearing on the bench in uniform. But it was announced to the crowd prior to the game that they would not participate.
Wade is averaging a team-best 24.4 points and 6.9 assists per game this season, though Miami has stumbled to a league-worst 11-48 record.
In addition, Heat forward Alexander Johnson was suspended one game for a flagrant foul on Toronto's Andrea Bargnani, while Daequan Cook and Joel Anthony are still en route from the team's NBDL affiliate in Iowa and won't rejoin the team until Saturday.
Alonzo Mourning and Dorell Wright have both been lost for the season because of knee injuries, while Smush Parker remains listed as inactive.
