(Sports Network) - The Atlanta Hawks resume their quest for a postseason berth with tonight's visit to Orlando's Amway Arena for a key showdown with the Southeast Division-leading Magic.
Atlanta, which hasn't made the playoffs since the 1998-99 campaign, currently occupy the eighth and final postseason spot in the Eastern Conference but are only one-half game in front of New Jersey for that position.
The Hawks moved ahead of the Nets by virtue of Saturday's 97-94 home victory over the hapless Miami Heat. Joe Johnson poured in 39 points to help Atlanta halt a four-game losing streak.
Atlanta actually was credited with two wins on Saturday, as the Hawks and Heat finished out a contest initially played on December 19 but was suspended due to protest with 51.9 seconds to play. Atlanta held on for a 114-111 decision in that one.
The Hawks are just 7-24 on the road this season but did defeat the Magic in Orlando back in December. Atlanta posted a 98-87 victory that night and have won three of the last four meetings in the series.
Orlando is in far better shape than the Hawks in the playoff picture, since the club comes in owning a comfortable nine-game advantage over second-place Washington in the Southeast standings. The Magic will be attempting to shake off a loss in their last outing, however, as Golden State entered Amway Arena on Saturday and came away with a 104-95 triumph.
The Magic fell despite a 26-point, 12-rebound effort from Dwight Howard. Hedo Turkoglu added 23 points for Orlando, which had a three-game winning streak halted, while Rashard Lewis netted 21 in the loss.
Orlando had won five in a row at home prior to Saturday's setback and owns an 18-12 record as the host this season.
