Durant, SuperSonics visit Beantown

Wed 12th, March 2008

(Sports Network) - The Boston Celtics will try to extend their winning streak to a season high 10 straight games tonight, when they open a brief homestand versus the Seattle SuperSonics at TD Banknorth Garden.

The Celtics will also host the Utah Jazz and are 28-4 at home this season. They have also won 10 in a row and 12 of 13 at TD Banknorth Garden.

Boston kept its overall winning streak intact with Monday's 100-86 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers at the Wachovia Center, as Kevin Garnett scored 26 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the way. Ray Allen scored 21 points and Paul Pierce had 17 for the top-seeded Celtics, who scored the game's first 15 points before pulling away in the third quarter.

Kendrick Perkins contributed seven points, 10 rebounds and tied a career-high with six blocks, as the Atlantic Division-leading Celtics recorded their 50th win of the season for the first time since the 1991-92 campaign.

The struggling Sonics will wrap up a seven-game road trip on Wednesday, and are 1-5 on the trek. Seattle has dropped five straight and fell to 6-27 on the road this season following Tuesday's 114-107 setback to the Indiana Pacers at Conseco Fieldhouse.

Rookie Kevin Durant led the team with 27 points and fellow rookie Jeff Green added 15 points. Chris Wilcox chipped in 13 points for Seattle, which has dropped eight of nine and 18 of its last 20 contests as the guest.

Boston defeated the Sonics, 104-96, on December 27 at KeyArena. Allen struggled in his return to Seattle and finished just 4-of-13 from the field for 10 points. He got a standing ovation during pregame introductions in the first game against his former employer since being traded on draft night last summer. Seattle dealt the seven-time All-Star to the Celtics for guard Delonte West, forwards Wally Szczerbiak and Green, who was chosen with the No. 5 overall pick. Allen played four-plus seasons with the Sonics.

The Celtics have won two straight, four of seven and 10 of the last 15 matchups with Seattle, which has lost seven of its last eight trips to Beantown.
