Heat, Knicks battle in Miami

Wed 12th, March 2008

(Sports Network) - The hapless New York Knicks will try to stop a seven-game slide when they close out a short road trip against the struggling Miami Heat tonight at AmericanAirlines Arena.

New York has lost seven in a row and suffered a 108-79 setback to the Dallas Mavericks on Monday in the opener of the swing at American Airlines Center. Zach Randolph recorded 21 points and pulled down 14 boards for the Knicks, who have dropped 18 of their last 22 contests overall.

David Lee had 14 points, Jamal Crawford contributed 13 and Fred Jones finished with 10 points in defeat. New York has dropped five straight away from Madison Square Garden, and is 6-25 as the visitor this season.

Miami is an NBA-worst 11-51 this season and will resume a four-game homestand on Wednesday versus the Knicks. Miami has dropped five straight overall and opened the stand with Monday's 99-98 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers at AmericanAirlines Arena. Ricky Davis scored 27 points for the Heat, losers in 32 of their last 35 games.

Earlier in the day the Heat learned they would be without star guard Dwyane Wade for the remainder of the season. Wade is out because of a balky left knee that was surgically repaired in the offseason. He had apparently complained of soreness in the knee a couple of weeks ago and sat out Friday's game against Golden State to rest. He returned Saturday against Atlanta and scored 24 points with eight assists in a 97-94 loss.

The team announced Monday that Wade will undergo shock therapy treatment, a non-surgical procedure, later this week. He will then be limited to passive exercise for 30 days before returning to basketball activities.

Miami will also host Orlando and Dallas on the current homestand, and is 6-25 at home this season. On the injury front for the Heat, forward Udonis Haslem (ankle) is questionable against New York.

Wednesday's showdown between New York and Miami is the third of four meetings this season. The Knicks are slated to host the Heat on March 26 at historic Madison Square Garden.

Both teams have one win apiece this season, while Miami has won nine of 13 and 10 of the last 15 meetings. New York has lost four of its last six trips to South Beach.
