(Sports Network) - The New Jersey Nets will try to stop a six-game slide when they open a short homestand tonight versus LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Izod Center.
New Jersey has dropped six in a row and just went winless on a five-game road trip. In Monday's 91-73 loss to the red-hot Houston Rockets in the finale of the swing at the Toyota Center, Vince Carter had 13 points and eight rebounds for the Nets.
Richard Jefferson netted 12 points and Devin Harris 10 in defeat, as New Jersey shot 30.4 percent from the field and remained a half-game behind Atlanta for the eighth and final postseason spot in the East. The Nets will also host Utah and are 15-17 at the Meadowlands in 2007-08.
Cleveland will begin a brief two-game road trip on Wednesday against New Jersey and Washington, and is 16-17 as the guest this season.
The Cavaliers have won two straight, five of six and eight of their last 11 games, including Monday's 88-80 triumph over the Portland Trail Blazers at Quicken Loans Arena. James scored 24 points, dished out 11 assists and hauled in 10 rebounds to record his seventh triple-double of the season.
Joe Smith added 18 points for the Cavs, who presently occupy the fourth postseason spot in the Eastern Conference. Anderson Varejao notched 16 points and nine boards, while Delonte West had 10 points in the win. Cleveland forward Ben Wallace exited the game at the half with back spasms and is questionable against New Jersey.
Cavs guard Devin Brown (knee) is probable for Wednesday's game, while guard Sasha Pavlovic (foot) is questionable.
Wednesday's showdown between the Cavs and Nets is the third of four meetings this season. New Jersey is 2-0 so far and is scheduled to visit Cleveland at Quicken Loans Arena on April 9.
New Jersey has won eight of 12 and 10 of the last 16 meetings with the Cavs, who have lost two straight, 10 of 11 and 11 of its last 15 on the road in this series.
