Kings cruise past Trail Blazers

Fri 14th, March 2008

Sacramento, CA (Sports Network) - Ron Artest had 22 points and six steals to guide the Kings to a 96-85 win over Portland.

Beno Udrih totaled 14 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for Sacramento, which has won two straight following defeats in seven of eight games. Brad Miller also had 14 points, while John Salmons chipped in 11 and Mikki Moore 10. Sacramento also snapped a two-game home skid.

Brandon Roy scored 21 points, pulled down nine rebounds and had six assists for the Trail Blazers, who have dropped two of their last three contests. Travis Outlaw contributed 13 points and Martell Webster 10 in defeat.

Sacramento led the entire way, scoring six of the first seven points. A Salmons jumper moved the lead to 32-22 inside of one minute left in the first quarter.

Ahead by seven after 12 minutes, the Kings scored the first eight of the second for a 42-27 advantage, capped by a pair of baskets from Spencer Hawes. Udrih's layup provided the Kings with a 58-43 halftime margin.

"I was just trying to get out there and make sure to turn on the energy a little bit," Artest said. "We were trying to start the game by setting the tone with the energy."

The Kings were ahead by double digits nearly the entire third quarter, but Portland managed to get within eight late and faced a 72-63 deficit going into the fourth.

Sacramento pulled away by scoring the first six points of the fourth before the Blazers got within seven, the last time at 82-75 on a LaMarcus Aldridge jumper with 7:06 left. However, an ensuing 8-0 run sealed Sacramento's win. Artest nailed a three-pointer during the spurt.

"We just turned the ball over," Roy said. "There were a couple where I thought a guy was going to be there and he wasn't."
