Mavericks, Spurs battle in Dallas

(Sports Network) - Southwest Division rivals battle this afternoon, as the San Antonio Spurs visit the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center.

San Antonio is No. 6 in the Western Conference playoff race, while the Mavericks are seeded seventh and trail the Spurs by two games.

This is the fourth and final meeting of the regular season between the clubs. San Antonio is 2-1 against the Mavericks and has won two in a row.

The Spurs have lost two straight after winning their last two at Dallas.

San Antonio has won two in a row and plays the first of a two-game road trip. Tim Duncan scored 21 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead the Spurs over the Sacramento Kings, 102-89, at the AT&T Center.

Tony Parker poured in 19 points and handed out seven assists for the Spurs, who have won two straight after dropping four in a row. Jacque Vaughn ended with 11 points and seven assists, while Bruce Bowen netted 10 in the victory.

The Spurs are 18-17 on the road this season. They will visit Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic on Tuesday at Amway Arena.

Dallas has dropped two in a row and plays the third of a four-game homestand. On Thursday, Ray Allen scored 21 points, and made a crucial three-pointer in the final minute to help the Boston Celtics beat the Mavericks, 94-90, at American Airlines Center.

Reigning MVP Dirk Nowitzki collected 22 points and 19 rebounds, while Josh Howard scored 24 for the Mavericks, who have lost two in a row after a five- game winning streak. Jerry Stackhouse had 17 points, and Jason Kidd registered nine assists and 11 rebounds.

The Mavericks are an impressive 29-6 at home this season. They will host the Clippers on Tuesday in the finale of the homestand.
