(Sports Network) - The Cleveland Cavaliers haven't lost a home game in more than month, but that streak figures to be tested when the current front- runners in the Western Conference, the New Orleans Hornets, invade Quicken Loans Arena tonight for a marquee matchup.
Cleveland is currently riding a nine-game home winning streak, the franchise's longest as the host since it closed out the 2005-06 campaign with 11 consecutive victories, and boasts a 24-10 mark at Quicken Loans Arena this season. However, the Cavs haven't been nearly as successful in enemy arenas as of late, and the club suffered its fifth straight road loss with Saturday's 108-98 setback at Milwaukee.
LeBron James managed 29 points and 11 rebounds for Cleveland on the evening, but the superstar forward struggling to a 9-for-25 shooting night from the floor. As a team the Cavaliers connected on just 37 percent of their field goal attempts.
Zydunas Ilgauskas compiled 20 points and nine rebounds for the Cavs, who enter tonight's tilt with a 3 1/2-game advantage on Washington for the Eastern Conference's No. 4 playoff seed.
Cleveland can clinch a postseason berth with a victory tonight coupled with a New Jersey loss in the Nets' game with Indiana this evening.
The Cavs will likely have to try to get it done without Ben Wallace, as the standout forward missed the Milwaukee game with back spasms and is not expected to play tonight as well.
The Hornets come in having won four straight contests and got an important six-game road trip off to a terrific start with Tuesday's triumph at Indiana. All-Stars David West and Chris Paul each put together monster performances to carry New Orleans past the Pacers, 114-106, at Conseco Fieldhouse.
West amassed 35 points and 16 rebounds, while Paul finished with 31 points and 14 assists for the Hornets, who improved to 48-21 on the season and lead the Los Angeles Lakers by percentage points for the top spot in the West.
Tuesday's victory was only the second for New Orleans in its last six road tilts. Following tonight's matchup, the Hornets will visit Eastern Conference leader Boston on Friday.
New Orleans handed the Cavaliers an 86-76 defeat in the Big Easy back in December, but the Hornets have lost six in a row as the visitor in this series and haven't won in Cleveland since November 23, 2002.
