Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Martell Webster scored 23 points, as the Trail Blazers overcame injuries to a pair of their best players to beat Washington, 102-82, at the Rose Garden.
Travis Outlaw added 20 points for Portland, which has won three of its last four games. Guard Brandon Roy strained his right groin at the end of the first quarter, but came back in the second, only to miss the second half. Forward LaMarcus Aldridge sat out with an ankle injury.
Roy and Aldridge are averaging nearly 37 points per game combined, but the Blazers got big contributions from their bench as Jarrett Jack tallied 17 points and Channing Frye 10. Portland's bench outscored Washington's reserves, 42-28. Joel Przybilla pulled down 17 rebounds in the victory.
"These next few games are going to be important for us in several ways," Blazers coach Nate McMillan said. "Most important, we want to see how this young team finishes an 82 game schedule. They're banged up, sore and fatigued, but this is the kind of schedule they'll have to play in April every year against the tough Western Conference teams. I hope that we're healthy. I am really anxious to see us against those top teams in the west."
Caron Butler scored 19, and Antonio Daniels had 14 points and eight assists for the Wizards, who are now just a half-game ahead of Philadelphia for the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference. Roger Mason scored 11 in a reserve role, but Antawn Jamison struggled by going 3-of-13 from the floor for just nine points, as Washington opened its five-contest road swing by having a three- game winning streak broken.
The Wizards shot just 35.8 percent from the field.
"I thought their small lineups, speed and quickness hurt us," Wizards coach Eddie Jordan said. "In transition they made shots. We didn't make shots. They did a good job of fronting our posts. They rebounded well and they're a good team at home. We just didn't make shots and we didn't get the juice."
Roy was hurt contesting a three-pointer from Butler at the end of the first quarter. Roy returned with 8:13 left in the second, but departed less than two minutes later and headed to the locker room and didn't come back.
Portland scored 10 of the game's first 12 points and was in front 31-22 after the opening quarter. Seven straight points in the second expanded the Blazers to a 49-39 lead, with Webster's shot from beyond the arc capping the rally. The lead reached 59-43 at the half, as Jack accounted for the final seven points of the period.
Jack's driving layup extended the difference to 65-45 two minutes into the third and it was 82-66 heading to the fourth. The Wizards never made a dent into the deficit over the final 12 minutes.
