Cavs try to end skid in Motor City

Sat 29th, March 2008

(Sports Network) - The Cleveland Cavaliers will try to avoid losing their third straight game when they pay a visit to the rival Detroit Pistons this evening at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Cleveland has dropped two straight and five of its last eight games, including Wednesday's last-second 100-99 loss to the New Orleans Hornets at Quicken Loans Arena. Zydrunas Ilgauskas finished with a season-high 29 points and grabbed 15 boards for the Cavaliers, who are fourth in the Eastern Conference playoff race -- two games ahead of Washington.

LeBron James had 21 points and eight assists, as Cleveland watched its nine- game home win streak come to an end. The Cavs will try to stop a five-game skid as the guest on Saturday, and own a 16-21 mark away from home this season.

In injury news for Cleveland, guard Daniel Gibson (ankle) is probable against Detroit, while guard Delonte West (ankle) and center Ben Wallace (back) are listed as questionable for tonight.

The Central Division-champion Pistons will wrap up a two-game homestand on Saturday, and are 29-6 in Motown this season. They opened the stand with Thursday's 85-69 victory over the Miami Heat, as Jason Maxiell and Arron Afflalo had 15 points and seven rebounds apiece to lead the way.

Chauncey Billups added 13 points and 11 assists for the Pistons, who are seeded second in the Eastern Conference playoff race behind Boston. Rasheed Wallace tallied 13 points in a winning effort.

Detroit will put its five-game home winning streak on the line this evening. On the injury front for the Pistons, guard Richard Hamilton is questionable against Cleveland with a sore left hip.

The 2007-08 season series between the Cavs and Pistons is tied at a game apiece, while Detroit has won seven of nine and eight of the last 11 matchups.

Cleveland has dropped its last two trips to the Motor City.
