Boston welcomes Miami to Beantown

(Sports Network) - Two teams heading in opposite directions in the Eastern Conference meet tonight, as the Boston Celtics close out a four-game homestand versus the lowly Miami Heat at TD Banknorth Garden.

Boston has won two straight and improved to 2-1 on the homestand after Friday's 112-92 victory over the New Orleans Hornets. Paul Pierce scored 27 points and had nine assists to spark the Eastern Conference-leading Celtics.

Kevin Garnett finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds for Boston, which avenged a loss in New Orleans last Saturday. With the win, the Celtics have defeated every team in the NBA, the first time the franchise has done that since the 1990-91 season.

The Celtics, who have seven of their last 10 games overall, are 31-6 in Beantown this season. They are 13-2 in the last 15 games at home.

Miami is a miserable 13-59 this season and has lost two straight, five of six and 13 of the last 15 contests. It fell to 0-2 on a four-game road trip following Thursday's 85-69 loss to Detroit at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Blake Ahearn scored 15 points to pace the Heat, while Chris Quinn contributed 11 points in defeat.

The last-place Heat will also visit Indiana and is 6-30 away from South Beach this season. They have dropped four in a row and six of seven as the visitor.

In injury news for Miami, guard Daequan Cook (mild concussion/bruised jaw) will miss tonight's game, while forward Shawn Marion (back) is expected to sit out as well.

Sunday's battle between Boston and Miami is the fourth and final meeting of the season. The Celtics are 3-0 so far in the series with the Heat and have won four in a row overall.

Miami has lost five of nine and six of its last 11 at Boston.
