Hawks try to keep playoff hopes alive vs. Knicks

(Sports Network) - The Atlanta Hawks are clinging to the eighth and final playoff berth in the East, and will close out a three-game homestand versus the New York Knicks today at Philips Arena.

Atlanta is two games ahead of the New Jersey Nets for the final playoff spot, and improved to 2-0 on the homestand with Friday's 106-103 victory over the Chicago Bulls. Mike Bibby poured in a season-high 30 points and dished out eight assists for the Hawks, who have won six of eight overall and four in a row at Philips Arena.

Joe Johnson tallied 19 points and seven assists, as Atlanta improved to 23-13 as the host this season. The Hawks haven't reached the playoffs since the strike-shortened 1998-99 campaign.

New York will resume a five-game road trip on Sunday, and is 7-28 away from the Big Apple this season. The Knicks opened the swing with a 103-95 loss at Toronto on Friday, as Jamal Crawford poured in 26 points to lead the way.

Jared Jeffries added 21 points and a season-high 10 rebounds, while Quentin Richardson scored 20 and grabbed 10 boards in his return to the lineup after missing seven games with a sprained knee.

The Knicks, who are 2-12 this month, will also visit Milwaukee, Memphis and New Orleans on the current trek. New York forward Zach Randolph (flu) and guard Nate Robinson (knee) are both questionable for Sunday's game.

Atlanta and New York are playing the third of four matchups this season, while the Knicks are slated to host the Hawks on April 11 at Madison Square Garden.

Atlanta is 2-0 this season and has won six of the last 10 meetings with New York, which has lost four of its last five as the guest in this series.
