(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Lakers have hit a snag and will try to right the ship tonight, when they continue a five-game homestand versus the Washington Wizards at the Staples Center.
The Lakers lost the first two tests of the homestand and have dropped three of four overall. In Friday's 114-111 setback to the Memphis Grizzlies, Kobe Bryant recorded his 23rd career 50-point game with a game-high 53 for the Lakers, who have lost three straight at home and fell to 24-11 as the host this season.
Los Angeles sits one game behind San Antonio and New Orleans for the top spot in the Western Conference, and is tied with Phoenix for first place in the Pacific Division. The Lakers were off Saturday, while the Suns bested the Nets in New Jersey.
Sasha Vujacic had 14 points and Jordan Farmar added 11 in the recent loss for LA. The Lakers will also welcome Portland and Dallas to the City of Angels on the homestand. In injury news for LA, forward/center Pau Gasol is doubtful for this evening's game because of a sprained left ankle. Forward Lamar Odom (illness) is probable for Sunday.
Washington will continue a five-game road trip on Sunday, and is 2-1 so far on the swing. The Wizards have won the last two games and pushed their road record to 17-19 with Friday's 114-108 victory over the Sacramento Kings.
Antawn Jamison recorded 25 points and 12 rebounds, while DeShawn Stevenson scored 20 points for the Wizards, who have won five of six and hold a one-game lead over Toronto for fifth place in the Eastern Conference. Caron Butler added 18 points, seven assists and six boards for Washington.
The Wizards, who will also pay a visit to the Utah Jazz, are 7-2 in their past nine road tests.
Sunday's showdown between the Lakers and Wizards is the second and final matchup of the regular season. Los Angeles posted a 103-91 victory on February 3 at the Verizon Center, as Bryant registered 30 points, including 19 in the first quarter.
The Lakers have won six of 10 and 10 of the last 15 meetings with the Wizards, losers in 12 of the last 14 as the visitor in this series.
