Slumping Mavericks need a win against the Clippers

(Sports Network) - The fading Dallas Mavericks wrap up a three-game road trip when they visit the Los Angeles Clippers tonight at the Staples Center.

Dallas, Denver and Golden State are all 45-28 and are battling for the seventh and eighth seeds in the playoff race.

The Mavericks have lost two in a row and five of their last six games. Monta Ellis scored 30 points to go along with five assists and four rebounds, and the Warriors defeated the Mavericks, 114-104, on Sunday at ORACLE Arena.

Josh Howard scored 36 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the loss for the Mavericks, while Jason Kidd finished with 13 points, nine rebounds and 14 assists in defeat.

Dallas is 15-21 on the road this season. The Mavericks return home to host Golden State on Wednesday at American Airlines Center.

The Mavericks are 10-0 against teams with losing records since acquiring Kidd from the Nets.

The Clippers attempt to win back-to-back games for the first time since February 20-22. Rookie Al Thornton tied a Clippers rookie record by scoring a career-high 39 points, as Los Angeles snapped a 10-game skid with a 110-97 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday at the Staples Center.

LA is 13-24 as the host this season. The Clippers will visit Seattle on Wednesday and Sacramento on Thursday.

The Mavericks are 3-0 against the Clippers this season, and have won five straight overall in the series.

Dallas has captured three of its last four at the Clippers.

A victory tonight would give the Mavericks their first regular-season series sweep over the Clippers since the 2002-03 campaign.
