Lakers begin road trip in Sacramento

Sun 6th, April 2008

(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Lakers open an important three-game road trip, as they visit Pacific Division-rival Sacramento tonight at ARCO Arena.

The Lakers, who lead second-place Phoenix by one game in the Pacific Division, are the No. 2 seed in the West and are 1 1/2 games behind top-seeded New Orleans.

The teams have split a pair of games this season. The Lakers have won three straight after losing their last three at Sacramento.

The Lakers will host Sacramento on April 15 at the Staples Center in the final meeting of the campaign between the clubs.

Los Angeles, who have won three in a row on the road, is 25-13 as the visitor this season. The Lakers will also visit Portland and the Clippers on the current swing.

On Friday, Lamar Odom poured in a season-high 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Lakers erased a 12-point second-half deficit to edge the Dallas Mavericks, 112-108, and clinch a playoff berth.

Superstar Kobe Bryant had 25 points and 10 rebounds for the Lakers, who made the playoffs for the third straight season, and for the 55th time in the 60 seasons of the franchise. The Lakers have missed the playoffs only twice (1994, 2005) since 1976.

Pau Gasol, in his second game back after missing nine straight with a sprained left ankle, contributed 25 points and seven assists for LA, which won its third in a row.

Sacramento tries to extend its winning streak to five games. Kevin Martin scored 36 points, and made all 13 of his free throw attempts, as the Kings held on for a 118-115 win over Denver at the Pepsi Center.

Francisco Garcia had 29 points, and Mikki Moore finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds for Sacramento, which played without forward Ron Artest (thumb) and center Brad Miller (leg).

The Kings are 24-13 at home this season. They will visit the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday at ORACLE Arena.
