(Sports Network) - Two teams battling for playoff positioning in the Western Conference meet this afternoon, as the Phoenix Suns host the Dallas Mavericks at US Airways Center.
Phoenix, which is closing in on its fourth straight playoff berth, is tied with Houston for No. 5 in the Western Conference playoff race. The Suns are one game behind the first place Los Angeles Lakers in the Pacific Division standings.
Dallas is No. 7 in the West and is just one game ahead of Denver and Golden State.
The teams have split two contests this season. Dallas has dropped two in a row at Phoenix.
The Suns wrap up a two-game homestand. On Friday, Amare Stoudemire scored 24 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead Phoenix in a rout of the Minnesota Timberwolves, 117-88, at US Airways Center.
Grant Hill contributed 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Suns, who have won four of their last five games overall. Raja Bell ended with 15 points, while two-time MVP Steve Nash notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 assists in the victory.
Phoenix is 28-10 at home this season. It has won seven in a row as the host.
After today's contest, Phoenix will embark on a three-game road trip. The Suns will visit Memphis, San Antonio and Houston on the upcoming swing.
Dallas wraps up a two-game road trip. On Friday, Lamar Odom poured in a season-high 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Lakers erased a 12-point second-half deficit to edge the Mavericks, 112-108, at the Staples Center.
Dirk Nowitzki, in just his second game back after missing four games with left ankle and knee sprains, scored 27 points on 13-of-19 shooting for the Mavericks, who had a two-game winning streak halted. Jason Terry scored 25 points, and Josh Howard poured in 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds in defeat.
The Mavericks, who are 16-22 on the road this season, return home to host Seattle on Tuesday and Utah on Thursday at AmericanAirlines Center.
