Nuggets, Warriors continue battle for last playoff berth

(Sports Network) - The Denver Nuggets and Golden State Warriors continue to battle for the eighth and final playoff berth in the Western Conference, as the teams meet tonight at ORACLE Arena.

Golden State and the Nuggets are tied for eighth place in the West, two games behind the seventh-seeded Dallas Mavericks in the standings.

Denver is 2-1 against the Warriors this season, and defeated Golden State, 124-120, on December 28 at ORACLE Arena. The teams split a pair of contests at the Pepsi Center.

The Nuggets have won two of three and three of their last five at Golden State.

The Warriors play the middle contest of a three-game homestand. On Tuesday, Baron Davis finished with 33 points, five rebounds and nine assists as Golden State earned a 140-132 victory over the Sacramento Kings.

Stephen Jackson led five other Warriors in double figures with 20 points, while Al Harrington and Andris Biedrins added 17 points apiece. Biedrins also posted 17 rebounds and Monta Ellis poured in 16 points for the Warriors, who have won two of their last three contests overall.

Golden State, which has won three in a row as the host, is 26-12 at home this season. The Warriors will host the Clippers on Saturday in the finale of the current stand.

Denver plays the third of a four-game road trip. It is 1-1 on the swing and will wrap up the trip on Saturday against the Utah Jazz at EnergySolutions Arena.

Carmelo Anthony scored 36 points to lead the Nuggets to a much-needed 117-99 victory over the Clippers on Tuesday at the Staples Center. Allen Iverson collected 21 points and nine assists for the Nuggets, who snapped a two-game skid.

Linas Kleiza finished with 15 points off the bench in the victory, while Marcus Camby ended with 13 points and 18 rebounds for Denver, which lost to Seattle, 151-147, in double-overtime on Sunday in the opener of the road trip.

On the injury front for Denver, forward Nene (strained right groin) is questionable. He is averaging 5.3 points and 5.4 rebounds 16 games this season. Nene has missed two straight games.
