Magic go for win No. 50 against Minnesota

(Sports Network) - The Orlando Magic will shoot for their first 50-win season in more than a decade when they close out a brief homestand tonight versus the Minnesota Timberwolves at Amway Arena.

The last time Orlando reached 50 wins in a season was when it registered a franchise-best 60-22 mark during the 1995-96 campaign. The Magic lost in the Eastern Conference finals that year.

Orlando is 24-15 at home this season, and has won two of three and three of its last five games overall. In Wednesday's 115-83 victory over the Bulls in the opener of the homestand, Dwight Howard scored 30 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the way. Howard now has 67 double-doubles on the season, just one shy of Shaquille O'Neal's franchise-best 68.

Rashard Lewis added 21 points, seven boards and four assists for Southeast Division-champion Orlando. The Magic are the third seed in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

Minnesota has lost six in a row, and will open a three-game road trip on Friday against the Magic, Grizzlies and Pistons. It has dropped seven straight on the road and owns an NBA-worst 5-33 record as the visitor this season.

In Wednesday's 122-90 loss to the New Orleans Hornets at the Target Center, Rashad McCants tallied 23 points and buried 5-of-10 three-pointers. Randy Foye added 20 points and five assists, while Al Jefferson recorded 14 points and eight rebounds in a losing effort.

Orlando handed the T'Wolves a 111-103 setback on November 6 this season at Minnesota. It has won two of three and three of the last five matchups.

Minnesota is 3-1 in its last four on the road in this series.
