New York, NY (Sports Network) - San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili captured the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year Award on Monday.
Ginobili received 123 of 124 first-place votes and 615 of a possible 620 points from a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada.
In order to be eligible for this award, a player must have come off the bench in more games than they started. Ginobili was a sixth man in 51-of-74 games he played this season.
Leandro Barbosa of the Phoenix Suns, who won the award last year, finished second with 283 points and Jason Terry of the Dallas Mavericks finished third with 44 points.
Ginobili led the Spurs in scoring with a career-high average of 19.5 points per game to go along with 4.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.47 steals.
Bobby Jones of the Philadelphia 76ers was named the league's first top bench player following the 1982-83 season.
