Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia 76ers have reportedly reached a contract agreement with free-agent center Elton Brand, who has spent the last seven years of his career with the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Los Angeles Times reported Brand's deal is believed to be for five years and worth around $80 million.
The 29-year-old Brand opted out of the final year of his contract with the Clippers. Brand, who sat out 74 games last season while recovering from a ruptured Achilles' tendon, was to be owed $16.4 million had he stayed for the final year of his deal. He played in just eight games at the end of last season and had averages of 17.6 points and 8.0 rebounds.
The first overall pick in the 1999 NBA draft out of Duke, Brand spent his first two seasons playing for the Chicago Bulls. He has career averages of 20.3 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.1 blocks.
The Sixers reportedly cleared salary cap space Tuesday when they traded forwards Rodney Carney and Calvin Booth and a future No. 1 pick to the Minnesota Timberwolves. That deal can't be formally announced until Wednesday when the league's free agent signing period begins.
