Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Washington Wizards forward Antawn Jamison strained his right knee in the first quarter of Tuesday's preseason opener against the Dallas Mavericks.
Jamison was on the defensive side trying to guard Dirk Nowitzki when his knee buckled. Jamison was then helped off the court to the locker room and missed the rest of the game, but an X-ray revealed it was just a strain.
Jamison will likely undergo an MRI exam when the team returns to the nation's capital.
A two-time All-Star, Jamison averaged 21.4 points and 10.2 rebounds in 79 contests last season. He recorded a career-high 44 double-doubles in 2007-08 and was one of only five players in the league to average at least 20 points and 10 rebounds per game.
During the offseason, Jamison re-upped with the Wizards in a four-year extension worth $50 million.
Over 10 seasons in the NBA, including stints with Golden State and Dallas, he has appeared in 717 games and has averaged 19.6 points and 7.9 rebounds.
The Wizards are already without guard Gilbert Arenas likely for the next several months because of a knee injury. Also, center Brendan Haywood is slated to have his sprained right wrist examined on Wednesday. Haywood was hurt in training camp last week and sat out Tuesday's game.
