Celtics general manager Danny Ainge told the Boston Globe on Wednesday that the club will exercise its $2.09 million option on the young point guard prior to the start of the season. Rondo and his agent told the Globe that they are happy about the decision, and hope to sign a long-term deal with the Celtics during the summer of 2009.
Rondo averaged 10.6 points, 5.1 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 29.9 minutes per game for the Celtics last season, his second in the league.
