Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Henrik Zetterberg had a goal and two assists as the Detroit Red Wings cruised to a 5-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks at Joe Louis Arena.
Pavel Datsyuk had a goal and an assist while Johan Franzen, Kris Draper and Daniel Cleary each added scores for the Red Wings, who have won their last two after a small two-game slide. Ty Conklin made 24 saves in the win.
"We've been playing good lately and when the puck goes in it's fun," said Zetterberg. "It was a team effort tonight and overall I think we played a good game, especially on defense."
Detroit has a comfortable 12-point lead over Chicago for first place in the Central Division and trails San Jose by just one point for first place in the Western Conference.
Ryan Getzlaf and Bobby Ryan scored for the Ducks, who have dropped three straight and remain one point behind Edmonton for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 29 stops in the loss.
Anaheim was awarded an early power play and took advantage as Getzlaf's wrister from the left circle found its way through traffic and past Conklin for a 1-0 lead just 52 seconds in.
However, Detroit scored four consecutive goals to assume command of the game.
The Red Wings tied the contest at the 13:48 mark of the first as Zetterberg's turnaround shot from the right boards was tipped in by Cleary.
Detroit then took the lead for good with 34 seconds left in the opening frame on the power play. Zetterberg held the puck behind the net and spotted Datsyuk down low for the easy tap in.
"We have to be better in the critical areas," said Ducks coach Randy Carlyle. "If you look where their goals were scored from, specifically the first two, they were in prime areas we should have had better coverage on."
Zetterberg made it a 3-1 game at the 11:39 mark of the second as he took a pass from Datsyuk and from the slot wristed the puck home.
Detroit made it a 4-1 game just 1:23 into the third when Franzen picked off an errant pass at the right circle, turned around and fired the puck past Giguere.
Anaheim made it a 4-2 game with 6:05 to play on Ryan's 20th goal of the season.
However, the Ducks were unable to get any closer and Draper's breakaway slap- shot goal in the final moments of the contest accounted for the final score.
