Sat 2nd, June 2007

Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Ian Snell pitched eight strong innings, yielding just one run as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1, in the second of a four-game set at PNC Park.

Snell (5-4) allowed six hits and two walks, while striking out six. Matt Capps, in his first outing as the team's closer, pitched a perfect ninth to pick up his first save of the year for the Pirates, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Xavier Nady hit his eighth homer of the season and Jose Bautista had three hits and a run scored for Pittsburgh, which won for just the second time in their last seven games. Tony Abreu had three hits and an RBI and Hong-Chin Kuo (0-1) lasted 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits, while walking two and striking out three for the Dodgers, who lost for just the third time in 10 games. Pittsburgh jumped ahead in the first. Bautista and Chris Duffy singled before Freddy Sanchez singled in one run. Adam LaRoche walked with the bases loaded later in the frame, putting the Pirates ahead, 2-0. Abreu put the Dodgers on the board with an RBI double in the second but Nady's lead-off home run to center in the sixth gave the Pirates a 3-1 edge Los Angeles threatened in the seventh.
