Coyotes welcome Kings to the desert

Tue 2nd, December 2008

(Sports Network) - It didn't take too long for the Coyotes to find their way back into the loss column. Phoenix will try to rebound tonight against a club it enjoyed success against last year, as it hosts the Los Angeles Kings at Jobing.com Arena.

The Coyotes endured a six-game losing streak from November 13-24, getting outscored 23-10 over the skid. They then posted consecutive one-goal victories over Columbus and Colorado, but fell in defeat, 3-2, versus San Jose on Saturday.

Derek Morris and Kyle Turris both scored and Shane Doan notched a pair of helpers for the Coyotes, who have now split the first two games of their current four-game homestand. That residency wraps on Thursday versus Toronto, and the club is 6-4-1 as the host this year.

Ilya Bryzgalov allowed the first two shots he faced to get by him and was replaced by Mikael Tellqvist, who made 20 saves but also allowed the game- winning goal.

Bryzgalov should get a chance at redemption tonight, as he went 5-0-0 with a 1.40 goals against average and one shutout versus the Kings last year. Doan had five goals and seven assists against Los Angeles a season ago in helping Phoenix win the series 6-1-1.

Ed Jovanovski added two goals and nine assists versus the Kings last year, while Doan has 53 points (20 goals, 33 assists) in his career against Los Angeles, his highest point total against any one NHL team.

Anze Kopitar led the Kings in scoring against the Coyotes last year, posting six points off two goals and four assists. Dustin Brown (3g, 2a) and Alexander Frolov (1g, 4a) had five points each versus Phoenix.

Frolov scored the only goal in LA's 3-1 setback to Toronto on Monday that snapped the Kings' two-game winning streak. Matt Greene had the lone assist.

Frolov has scored in four of his last five games and has a team-high nine goals on the season.

Jason LaBarbera made 27 saves, stopping 17 shots through the first two periods. He went 0-4-0 with a 3.05 GAA versus the Coyotes last year. Erik Ersberg, who has made 11 starts this season, won both of his starts versus the Coyotes last season.

The Kings are 3-4-0 as the road team this season.
