Honolulu, HI (Sports Network) - Vijay Singh, ranked No. 5 in the world, will play in this weekend's Mercedes-Benz Championship in Kapalua, but will reportedly be out the following five weeks due to knee surgery.
The Honolulu Star-Bulletin reports Singh will have the procedure done to repair a torn meniscus. That means he will miss the Sony Open in Hawaii next week.
The 45-year-old Singh will be paired with defending champion Daniel Chopra in Thursday's final group.
Last year, Singh won three events on the PGA Tour - the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, The Barclays, and the Deutsche Bank Championship.
