Mavs edge Kings for fifth straight win

Fri 20th, November 2009

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Jason Terry and Kris Humphries sparked Dallas off the bench with 20 and 15 points, respectively, as the Mavericks won their fifth straight game behind a 104-102 decision over the Sacramento Kings.

Dirk Nowitzki posted 20 points to go with seven assists and five rebounds for the Mavs, who have won 12 straight over the Kings at American Airlines Center.

Jason Kidd dished out 11 assists in addition to adding 15 points, and Drew Gooden added a 16-rebound, nine-point effort in a winning cause.

Tyreke Evans had a terrific all-around game for Sacramento, finishing with 29 points, 10 helpers and seven boards.

"You can't really say too much about him," Kings head coach Paul Westphal said of his rookie point guard. "I mean, 20 years old and to come out and do what he did tonight. The guy is a real player and he's going to be around for a long time. He competes and goes out there to do everything he can to win the game."

Beno Udrih and Jason Thompson went for 20 and 18 points, respectively, in the loss, the club's second straight.

Dallas owned a 68-65 edge at the start of the fourth and extended the margin to 77-68 three minutes in, behind a Tim Thomas three-point play and a Humphries layup.

The visitors hung tough and were within 85-82 after Evans' layup at the 4:30 mark. Terry then hit a pair of mid-range jumpers around a Quinton Ross basket to make it a nine-point game again.

Kidd's three-ball with a little over a minute to play proved pivotal, as the Kings made a trio of three-pointers in the final 24 seconds to force Terry to ice the game at the free throw line.

"It was another gritty win for us and we'll take it," Terry said. "We stayed resilient on both ends of the floor and if we didn't get a stop or if we got a stop we came down and executed on the offensive end and got a basket and kept them on their heels."

The Kings led, 24-22, after 12 minutes, but a 10-0 run capped by a Terry bucket near the midway point of the second helped the Mavs take a 47-42 lead into the locker room.

Game Notes

The Mavs were without Josh Howard (ankle), Shawn Marion (ankle), and Erick Dampier (illness)...Forward Andres Nocioni, who was nursing a hip injury, posted 15 points for the Kings, who shot 53.1 percent from the floor but turned the ball over 21 times...Thomas had 11 points and seven rebounds for Dallas, whose bench outscored Sacramento's, 52-14.
