(Sports Network) - The class of the NBA's Northwest Division, the Denver Nuggets, head west, aiming for their eight straight win against the lowly Los Angeles Clippers.
The Nuggets finished a short, two-game homestand in perfect fashion on Tuesday when Carmelo Anthony continued his strong start to the season, making 12-of-15 shots, on the way to a 32-point night as Denver ran past Toronto, 130-112, at the Pepsi Center.
J.R. Smith finished with 29 points, going 5-of-9 from beyond the arc, as the Nuggets followed up a 105-79 rout of the Lakers Friday by moving to 4-0 at home.
"We can't complain about anything right now," said Anthony. "We can only take the negative things and turn them into positives. So far, so good, but we have a long way to go."
Nene contributed 20 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks for the Nuggets, while Kenyon Martin scored 15 as Denver shot a sizzling 61.5 percent (48-of-78) from the field.
The Clippers, meanwhile, finished a three-game road trip on a losing note Wednesday in Memphis when Rudy Gay and Zach Randolph each netted 21 points as the Grizzlies gained their first two-game winning streak of the season with a 106-91 triumph over Los Angeles.
Baron Davis scored 23, including 15 in the opening quarter, to lead the Clippers, who lost for the fifth time in six games and were 1-2 on the trip. Chris Kaman added 17 points and six rebounds in defeat.
"Gasol had a good night on us," admitted Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy. "We did a good job on Zach Randolph, but Marcus Camby hurt his back and had to go out of the game. At that point I don't think Zach had almost any points in the game. They had it going both ways in the post and forced us to try to come and double-team. They made shots."
Camby is questionable for tonight's contest while shooting guard Eric Gordon, who is averaging 18.9 points per game, is out with a strained groin. LA has won just once this season with Gordon out of the lineup.
