Thu 26th, April 2012

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - John Lucas had a career-high-tying 25 points, Joakim Noah scored 13 with 12 rebounds and the Chicago Bulls secured home- court advantage throughout the upcoming playoffs with a 107-75 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers at the United Center. Richard Hamilton, Taj Gibson and Mike James each contributed 10 points for the Bulls (50-16), who wrapped up the league's top overall seed for the second consecutive year and will face Philadelphia in the opening round of the postseason. The series will begin Saturday. Chicago played without Derrick Rose, the reigning NBA MVP, Luol Deng and Kyle Korver in its regular-season finale. Tristan Thompson posted a double-double of 13 points and 12 boards for Cleveland (21-45), which got 12 points apiece from Antawn Jamison, Donald Sloan and Luke Harangody. Rookie of the Year candidate Kyrie Irving sat out the Cavs' season finale. He played only 10 minutes in Wednesday's home finale against Washington after missing the morning shootaround with a stomach flu.

Final Score: Boston 87, Milwaukee 74

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Avery Bradley led the way with 14 points, as the Atlantic Division-champion Boston Celtics topped Milwaukee, 87-74, in the season-finale for both teams at TD Garden. Paul Pierce left the game briefly with a toe injury, but returned and netted 12 points for the Celtics (39-27), who ended the regular season having won five of their last seven. Rajon Rondo was held scoreless, but dished out a game-high 15 assists as Boston finished with the No. 4 seed but lost homecourt advantage to Atlanta in the first round because the Hawks beat Dallas and finished with one more win. Tobias Harris totaled 16 points and nine rebounds, while Jon Leuer added 15 and eight boards for the Bucks (31-35), who lost five of seven and will not participate in the postseason. Brandon Jennings tossed in 12 points for Milwaukee.

Final Score: San Antonio 107, Golden State 101

Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Patrick Mills poured in a game-high 34 points to go with 12 assists and five rebounds as the San Antonio Spurs topped the Golden State Warriors, 107-101, in the regular season finale for both teams at Oracle Arena. DeJuan Blair put home 22 points and ripped down 13 rebounds and James Anderson contributed 19 points and seven rebounds for the Spurs, who head into their first-round matchup with the Utah Jazz on a roll, having won 10 consecutive games to finish the season in first place in the Western Conference. Chicago's win over Cleveland earlier on Thursday killed any chance that San Antonio had of gaining home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. That series starts on Sunday in San Antonio. San Antonio (50-16) has won 50 games for the 13th consecutive season, passing the 1979-91 Los Angeles Lakers, who reached the 50-win plateau 12 straight times. Chris Wright paced the Warriors (23-43) with 25 points and eight rebounds, while Klay Thompson added 17 points and Jeremy Tyler and Charles Jenkins contributed 16 points apiece. Golden State has missed the playoffs for the fifth consecutive year.

Final Score: New York 104, Charlotte 84

Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - J.R. Smith scored 22 points, Amare Stoudemire had 21 and the New York Knicks locked up the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference with a 104-84 win over the Charlotte Bobcats on Thursday night. The Bobcats, meanwhile, lost their franchise-record 23rd straight game to end the season with the worst winning percentage in NBA history. They went 7-59 for a .106 winning percentage, taking the dubious mantle from the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers, who were 9-73 for a .110 winning percentage. The Knicks won five of their last six games to finish 36-30 and will face the Miami Heat in the first round.

Final Score: Memphis 88, Orlando 76

Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Marc Gasol scored 22 points, Rudy Gay had 20 and the Memphis Grizzlies locked up the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference with an 88-76 win over the Orlando Magic on Thursday night. The Grizzlies ended the regular season on a six-game winning streak -- and won their last 11 at home -- to post a 41-25 record, one win better than the Los Angeles Clippers to earn home-court advantage in their first-round series. The Magic had already locked up No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs with a win over Charlotte on Wednesday and will play the Indiana Pacers in the first round. Orlando went 4-6 in its last 10 games since losing Dwight Howard and finished with a 37-29 record. The Magic rested regulars Jameer Nelson, J.J. Redick, Ryan Anderson, Jason Richardson and Quentin Richardson and were led by 18 points from Hedo Turkoglu and 16 from Justin Harper.

Final Score: Atlanta 106, Dallas 89

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Josh Smith filled the stat sheet with 23 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, and Atlanta used a quick start to dismantle Dallas, 106-89, to cap the abbreviated regular season. Jeff Teague added 17 points and Joe Johnson 15 for the Hawks (40-26), who on the final night of the regular season gained home-court advantage for their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series with the fourth-seeded Celtics. Game 1 of that series is Sunday at Philips Arena. The Mavericks (36-30) will start defense of their NBA championship with a rematch from 2011 against the Thunder. Oklahoma City, winners of the Northwest Division, lost to Dallas in five games last year in the Western Conference finals. Dirk Nowitzki scored 22 to pace the Mavericks, who dropped four of their last six contests.

Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Alec Burks put home 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting and the Utah Jazz used a fourth-quarter rally to overtake the Portland Trail Blazers, 96-94, in the regular-season finale for both teams at Energy Solutions Arena on Thursday. Derrick Favors finished with 15 points and five rebounds, Jeremy Evans added 13 points and 10 boards, while Enes Kanter and Josh Howard contributed 12 points apiece for the Jazz (36-30), who ended the regular campaign with five consecutive wins. Utah will face the top-seeded San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. J.J. Hickson scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds, Jonny Flynn added 18 points, while Nolan Smith and Wesley Matthews donated 16 and 14 points, respectively for the Trail Blazers (28-38), who lost the final seven games of the season and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2007-08.

Final Score: Detroit 108, Philadelphia 86

Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - Ben Gordon made seven straight three- pointers in the second quarter and the Pistons concluded their season with a 108-86 rout of playoff-bound Philadelphia. They will face the top-seeded Bulls when the playoffs begin on Saturday. Spencer Hawes scored 16 to pace Philadelphia, which ended the regular season with a 35-31 record. Gordon finished with a game-high 26 points and Rodney Stuckey added 13 for the Pistons, who concluded their season with a 25-41 mark. They haven't made the playoffs since 2008-09. Arron Afflalo contributed 18 points and Danilo Gallinari 17 for the Nuggets (38-28), who will be seeded sixth in the Western Conference and will face the Pacific Division-champion Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the playoffs, starting Sunday. The Nuggets have never won a playoff series against the Lakers in five tries. J.J. Barea had 20 points for the Timberwolves (26-40), who haven't reached the playoffs since the 2003-04 campaign. Nikola Pekovic had 18 points and 10 rebounds for Minnesota, which lost 13 of its final 14 games. Denver, which will go into the postseason on a four-game winning streak, shot 62.9 percent.
