The Boston Herald reported Saturday that the 36-year-old Garnett is close to
working out a deal for at least two years and possibly three with the Celtics.
Garnett, who averaged 15.8 points and 8.2 rebounds over 60 games in his fifth
season with the Celtics, was due to become an unrestricted free agent on
Sunday. He earned $21.2 million last season.
A 14-time All-Star and the 2004 MVP, Garnett has been instrumental in Boston's
success. The Celtics won the NBA title in 2008 and have made it to at least
the Eastern Conference finals in two of the last three seasons.
Garnett played his first 12 years with Minnesota.
