(Sports Network) - The streaking Dallas Mavericks attempt to extend their winning streak to five games, as they visit the Boston Celtics tonight at TD Banknorth Garden.
This is the first of two meetings between the clubs this season. Dallas is scheduled to host the Celtics on March 20th at American Airlines Center.
Dallas has won seven in a row and 13 of the last 14 meetings in this series. The Mavericks have also won three straight and seven of their previous eight trips to Beantown. The last time the Celtics defeated the Mavericks was a 105-103 home triumph on December 17, 2003.
The Mavericks play the second of a four-game road trip on Thursday. Josh Howard scored 26 points to lead Dallas past the Memphis Grizzlies, 103-84, on Monday at FedExForum.
Reigning MVP Dirk Nowitzki poured in 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Mavericks, who have defeated the Grizzlies nine straight times. Jason Terry contributed 14 points, while Erick Dampier collected 11 points and 12 rebounds for Dallas, which has won 12 of its last 14 games overall.
Dallas is 11-10 on the road this season. It is scheduled to visit the Detroit Pistons on Sunday and the Orlando Magic on Monday in the finale of the swing.
Boston returns home after going 1-1 on a short two-game road trip. Leon Powe scored a career-high 25 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as the shorthanded Celtics crushed the Miami Heat, 117-87, on Tuesday at AmericanAirlines Arena.
The Celtics were without All-Star forward Kevin Garnett, who missed his second straight game due to a strained abdominal muscle, and sharp-shooting guard Ray Allen. Allen was sidelined because of the flu.
Rajon Rondo stepped up and matched a career-high 23 points and grabbed six rebounds in the win for the Celtics, who are an NBA best 35-8 this season and bounced back from a 96-93 setback on Sunday at Orlando.
Garnett, who is averaging 19.2 points, a team-best 9.9 rebounds and 3.8 assists this season, is questionable for Thursday. Allen is listed as probable against Dallas.
Boston is 19-4 at home this season. The Celtics will get some time off before they return to the court on February 5th against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers at Quicken Loans Arena.
