Los Angeles Lakers (29-16) at Washington Wizards (24-21), 12 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Pau Gasol could make his Los Angeles debut this afternoon, when the Lakers resume a season-long nine-game road trip against the Washington Wizards at the Verizon Center.

The Lakers acquired Gasol on Friday from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for center Kwame Brown, guard Javaris Crittenton, guard Aaron McKie, the draft rights to Marc Gasol and first round picks in 2008 and 2010. Pau Gasol is averaging 18.9 points and 8.8 rebounds this season, and won the NBA Rookie of the Year award in 2001-02. Gasol also made the All-Star team in 2006.

Gasol is expected to take over at center until Andrew Bynum returns from a knee injury next month. The 7-0 Gasol was scheduled to undergo a physical in Los Angeles on Saturday and may see action either today or Tuesday against the New Jersey Nets. According to Lakers head coach Phil Jackson, he would like to see Gasol play in Washington to beef up scoring down low.

The Lakers are 1-1 so far on the current road trip and 12-9 as the visitor this season. In Friday's 121-101 victory over the Toronto Raptors at Air Canada Centre, Kobe Bryant scored 46 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out five assists in the second contest of a season-high swing that opened Thursday with a loss at Detroit.

Sasha Vujacic tied a season-best effort with 22 points for the Lakers, who have won two of their last three games. Los Angeles will also visit New Jersey, Atlanta, Orlando, Miami, Charlotte and Minnesota on the trek.

In injury news for the Lakers, forward Luke Walton (hip) is questionable for Sunday's game against Washington.

Meanwhile, the Wizards will try to stop a two-game slide today in the finale of a short two-game homestand versus the Lakers. They opened the stand with Friday's 96-87 setback to the Utah Jazz, as Antawn Jamison scored a game-high 31 points and grabbed eight boards in defeat.

Andray Blatche contributed 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Antonio Daniels totaled 18 points for Washington, which has dropped four of its last six games overall. Wizards forward Caron Butler missed his third straight game with a hip flexor, and is listed as questionable for Sunday. Butler is averaging a career-high 21.9 points this season.

Los Angeles and Washington are meeting for the first time since splitting a pair of matchups in 2006-07. The Wizards have won four of the last six encounters with the Lakers, who have lost three of five in D.C.
