(Sports Network) - The NBA-best Boston Celtics attempt to extend their winning streak to six games, as they visit the Charlotte Bobcats tonight down south.

The Celtics are six games ahead of No. 2 Detroit in the Eastern Conference playoff standings.

Boston opens a three-game road trip this evening. Kevin Garnett scored 20 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and handed out four assists, as the Celtics used a dominant defensive effort to smother the Indiana Pacers, 92-77, on Wednesday at TD Banknorth Garden.

Paul Pierce added 13 points, five rebounds and five assists, and Leon Powe scored 14 to go along with nine boards off the bench for Boston, which has won nine of its last 11 games overall.

Boston has collected 36 more victories than it did last season, when it finished with a 24-58 record. The turnaround tied the 1997-98 San Antonio Spurs, who won 56 games after going 20-62 during the 1996-97 campaign.

Pierce (personal) is doubtful for tonight's contest.

The Celtics will also visit Milwaukee and Washington on the swing. They are 27-9 as the visitor this season, and have won nine of their last 10 on the road.

Charlotte begins a two-game homestand against the Celtics. On Friday, Jason Richardson scored 27 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and handed out six assists to lead the Bobcats to a 105-100 win over the Toronto Raptors at Air Canada Centre.

The Bobcats are 19-19 at home this season. They will host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday in the finale of the homestand.

The Celtics are 2-1 against the Bobcats this season. Boston has won two straight after losing its last two at Charlotte.
