(Sports Network) - The Philadelphia 76ers attempt to stave off elimination, as they host the Detroit Pistons tonight at the Wachovia Center for Game 6 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series.
Detroit leads this best-of-seven series 3-2. If necessary, Game 7 is scheduled for Saturday at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
The Pistons captured the pivotal Game 5 on Tuesday at home. Chauncey Billups recorded 21 points and 12 assists to lead No. 2 Detroit to a convincing, 98-81 victory over the seventh-seeded Sixers. Billups struggled from the field in the first four games of the series, sinking just 35.7 percent from the floor, but recovered to hit 7-of-14 in a blowout victory for the Pistons, who shot 58.1 percent as a whole.
Richard Hamilton scored 20 and Rasheed Wallace netted 19, while Tayshaun Prince added 17 points on 8-of-14 from the field. Jason Maxiell pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds to go along with six points in the victory.
Andre Iguodala finished with a team- high 21 points, but scored only six in the second half for Philadelphia, which committed 18 turnovers. Andre Miller shot 5-of-17 from the floor for 13 points, and Louis Williams came off the bench and ended with 16 points.
Philadelphia has dropped four of its last five Game 6s in the postseason. The Sixers have lost three straight games when facing elimination from the playoffs.
Detroit has lost two of its last three Game 6s in the playoffs. The Pistons have won four of their last six contests when they have the chance to eliminate their opponent from the postseason.
The Sixers are back in the playoffs for the first time since the 2004-05 campaign. They have been eliminated by Detroit in their last two postseason appearances. The Pistons defeated Philadelphia in six games, 4-2, in the 2003 East semis and in five contests, 4-1, in the opening round of the 2005 playoffs.
The Pistons have made the Eastern Conference finals five straight years. They lost in six games, 4-2, last year to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the East finals. Detroit is attempting to become the first team since the 1984-89 Los Angeles Lakers to reach six straight conference finals.
Philadelphia is 0-2 when facing elimination against the Pistons.
