NBA Game Summary - San Antonio at Phoenix

Final Score: San Antonio 84 - Phoenix 81

Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Tim Duncan finished with 16 points, 17 rebounds, and seven assists as the San Antonio Spurs beat the Phoenix Suns, 84-81, at US Airways Center.

Manu Ginobili had 19 points, and Jacque Vaughn scored 17 off the bench for San Antonio, which snapped a three-game losing streak. The Spurs evened the season series at 1-1.

Shawn Marion had 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Steve Nash had 17 points and eight assists for the Suns, who had a three-game win streak snapped. Amare Stoudemire finished with 16 points and nine boards.

In a tight fourth quarter, Stoudemire hit a jumper to put the Suns ahead, 79-75, with 1:18 remaining.

But Michael Finley came back on the other end and drained a three-pointer from the top of the arc, bringing the Spurs within one. Bruce Bowen then forced a steal from Nash, and Duncan banked a one-handed jumper in to give San Antonio an 80-79 lead with half a minute remaining.

On the other end, another Nash pass went astray, and Ginobili came up with the ball. He was fouled, and made both free throws with 15 seconds left, putting the Spurs up three.

Phoenix looked to tie the game, and almost did so, when Stoudemire made a nice move under the basket, making a layup and drawing the foul with 8.7 seconds left. It brought the Suns within 82-81, but he missed the foul shot.

Ginobili came down with the rebound, and was fouled with 6.5 ticks left. Again, he made both to re-establish a three-point lead for San Antonio.

Nash got one last look, but it was an awkward one, and his heave from the right corner missed the mark, sealing the Spurs' win.

Phoenix started the game on an 11-2 run, ending with two Grant Hill free throws. The Suns held the margin, and led 25-18 after one quarter.

The second quarter was a basket-trading affair, and the Spurs trailed 40-34 at halftime. San Antonio continued to stay close, and trimmed its deficit to two on a Ginobili jumper with 39 seconds left in the third quarter.

However, Leandro Barbosa had a three-point play to close out the stanza, giving Phoenix a 60-55 lead.
