Final Score: Philadelphia 91 - Atlanta 96
Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Josh Childress scored 21 points and pulled down six rebounds, as the Atlanta Hawks rallied from a 20-point first- quarter deficit to beat the Philadelphia 76ers, 96-91, at Philips Arena.
Josh Smith poured in 19 points, doled out nine assists, blocked nine shots and grabbed six boards for the Hawks, who have won two in a row. Smith also tied a franchise record with six blocks in a quarter and eight in a half.
Joe Johnson scored 18 points, while Tyronn Lue added 11 in victory.
Andre Miller tied a season-high with 29 points for the Sixers, who have lost two in a row and five of seven. Andre Iguodala chipped in 22 points, while Thaddeus Young had 11.
Iguodala sank a three-ball to cap seven straight Sixers points to get them within one, 87-86, with just under four minutes to play.
The Hawks increased that lead to three points on a Johnson layup with 1:53 showing on the game clock.
Atlanta then stopped Philadelphia on its ensuing possession and an Al Horford layup made it 93-88.
After the Sixers took their final timeout, Horford blocked a shot from Miller and was immediately fouled. He hit 1-of-2 from the line to make it 94-88.
After bringing the ball upcourt, Iguodala converted a three-point play with 19.5 seconds left to make it a one-possession game.
Atlanta then got the ball past midcourt, Smith was fouled and hit both shots from the stripe to all but put it away, 96-91, with 11 seconds left.
Willie Green had 10 points in defeat.
The Sixers started fast and furious, opening a 32-12 lead before the Hawks had the final two points of the first. Philadelphia outscored Atlanta 15-0 on fast break points in the first period.
"We started off kind of dry," Smith said. "They jumped right on us, I tried to play as hard as I could when I got back in. That generated momentum for our team."
The Hawks fought back and cut their deficit to six points, 50-44, at the intermission.
"It was a big difference," Miller said. "Their zone slowed us down a little. They made shots down the stretch and we didn't."
After exchanging baskets for the better part of the third quarter, a 7-0 Atlanta run gave the Hawks a 55-54 advantage. Johnson's three-pointer capped the mini-surge with 7:11 on the clock.
The lead then see-sawed until two Smith buckets and a pair of Lue foul shots gave the Hawks a 69-65 lead with just under a minute and a half to play in the third frame.
Moments later the Sixers took a one-point lead on a Miller jumper and an Iguodala trey, but Johnson answered back with a three-pointer of his own with 4.3 ticks left to give Atlanta a 72-70 lead they took into the final 12 minutes.
The Hawks opened up an 81-74 cushion, just three minutes into the fourth. Already sitting on a 77-74 advantage, Childress connected on a dunk and then followed it with a layup on the Hawks' next possession to give Atlanta the seven-point cushion.
