Final Score: Toronto 114 - Miami 82
Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Chris Bosh scored 24 points as the Toronto Raptors ran out to a 21 point lead after the first quarter and never looked back en route to a 114-82 thrashing of the hapless Miami Heat.
Andrea Bargnani added 22 points and five rebounds as the Raptors won for the fourth time in six games. Anthony Parker contributed 18 points, while Jose Calderon tallied 11 points and doled out 10 assists for Toronto, which shot a blistering 59.5 percent from the field.
Raptors point guard T.J. Ford returned to action after missing 24 games with a spinal cord contusion suffered in Toronto's December 11 game against Atlanta. Ford scored four points and distributed four assists in just under 17 minutes off the bench.
Dorell Wright came off the bench to lead the Heat with 17 points, and Alexander Johnson scored 10 points and grabbed 10 boards. Miami lost for the fourth straight game and the 19th time in their last 20 tries. Dwyane Wade added 12 points for the Heat.
The loss dropped Miami's record to an NBA-worst 9-37 on the season.
"The way the guys are losing is not what it's about," said Miami head coach Pat Riley. "I'm just waiting for our guys to get tired of taking this."
Toronto stormed out of the locker room, opening the game on a 16-4 run capped off by a three-point play from Bosh just 4:37 into the first quarter. A layup from Johnson cut the lead to 10, but the Raptors responded by scoring the next 12 points to take a 28-6 lead.
"They are a team that if you don't come out very, very aggressive defensively against them, you're going to find yourself in a hole because they shoot the ball so well," Wade said. "Every guy they put on the floor can shoot the ball and make shots."
Toronto led by as many as 23 points in the quarter, dominating the period to the tune of a 33-12 lead after the first 12 minutes. Bosh scored 12 points to lead the first-quarter onslaught.
"We were down 24-6," Riley said. "It is hard to really tell whether or not you can be competitive unless you play real hard."
Miami made several runs at Toronto's massive lead throughout the second quarter. An 8-0 spurt got the Heat within 14 when Chris Quinn drained a three- pointer with 8:22 left, but the Raptors stretched the lead back to 18 when Jason Kapono's jumper made the score 51-33 with just under five minutes left.
Wade then scored four points in a brief 8-2 run that got the Heat as close as 12 points after Ricky Davis connected with a layup with 2:26 to go, but Toronto scored the final six points of the half to take a commanding 59-41 lead into intermission.
Mark Blount scored the first four points after the break to pull within 14, and the teams traded baskets for the first four minutes of the quarter, as Wade's hook shot made the score 68-54. However, the Raptors once again left the Heat in the dust, outscoring them 21-8 over the final eight minutes of the third.
"We started off the third quarter well," Bosh said. "That is a weakness of ours all season. I think we did a good job clogging up the lane of Dwyane Wade's isolation plays. We did a good job defensively and we moved the ball well on offense."
Bargnani scored nine points in the session, and his pair of free throws with four seconds left gave Toronto an 89-62 lead at the end of three quarters.
The onslaught continued in the fourth quarter, as the Raptors led by as many as 39 points down the stretch to complete the blowout.
"You can hear the boos and you can hear the things they say," said Wade of the crowd's reaction to Miami's most lopsided deafeat of the season. "As well they should. You can't fault them for anything they say or do. Our fans are great for us when we are winning, and now we are losing and not playing hard."
