Final Score: Memphis 99 - New Orleans 112
New Orleans, LA (Sports Network) - David West scored 33 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, as the Hornets overcame a tough offensive night for Chris Paul in a 112-99 win over the Memphis Grizzlies.
Paul, who came into the game leading New Orleans at 20.8 points per game, was held to a season-low two points on 1-of-10 shooting. He did have 16 assists, as the Hornets won their second straight following a three-game skid.
"Chris came out one time and said 'I just can't buy a bucket. I can't get a shot.' Sometimes that's how it is," Hornets coach Byron Scott said. "He did a good job of controlling the game as far as getting other guys the ball. David did a great job of just being ready from start to finish."
Peja Stojakovic added 26 points for the Hornets, who swept all four games from Memphis this season. They won despite being without starting center Tyson Chandler and starting shooting guard Morris Peterson. Chandler was out with the flu, and Peterson sat out due to back spasms.
Rudy Gay had 26 points and Mike Miller ended with 18 for the Grizzlies, who lost their sixth straight contest.
It was 81-71 going into the fourth, and the closest the Grizzlies got in the final quarter was three, as Hakim Warrick's layup brought the margin to 87-84 with 6:37 left.
The Hornets came back with the next 11 points to seal the win, with Paul's only basket of the night, a layup, included in the run. It ended when Stojakovic hit a three-pointer for a 98-84 spread with 4:13 left.
Jannero Pargo had 13 points, Hilton Armstrong 11 and Rasual Butler 10 for the Hornets.
Mike Conley ended with 16 points, Darko Milicic 14 and Warrick 12 for the Grizzlies.
Although Memphis fell behind 16-2, the Grizzlies managed to tie the game, but never went ahead and lost their eighth straight road contest.
The Grizzlies trailed 22-20 after one quarter, but Gay's jumper to start the second tied the game. The Hornets built a 14-point lead later in the period, as West's jam made it 44-30 and it was 48-42 at the half.
Gay's jumper had the Grizzlies within 57-56 with 6:45 left in the third, but Butler and Stojakovic responded with three-pointers to start an 8-0 run.
Nine straight points later in the third moved New Orleans' advantage to 79-67, with West having six during the spurt.
