Final Score: New York 99 - Milwaukee 98
Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Jamal Crawford poured in 30 points and Malik Rose made the go-ahead basket and the eventual game-winner as the New York Knicks erased a 17-point deficit in the second half to edge the Milwaukee Bucks, 99-98, stemming an eight-game slide.
Rose's layup put the Knicks up 97-96 with 2:35 left, and his jumper with 1:53 remaining pushed the New York edge to 99-96. Charlie Bell picked Crawford's pocket and ran in for a easy layup, making it a one-point game with 31.1 seconds left.
The Bucks had a chance to win in the final seconds, but Bell couldn't get an open shot and had to pass to Michael Ruffin, who banged his shot hard off the glass, and the Knicks held on.
Ruffin finished 0-for-2 from the field, with zero points.
Fred Jones scored 18 points for the Knicks, who continued to play without point guard Stephon Marbury. The New York Post reported Saturday that Marbury will miss the remainder of the season with a left ankle injury. Marbury had already missed considerable time due to three leaves of absence following the death of his father prior to sustaining the ankle injury.
David Lee finished with 17 points and nine rebounds for New York.
"It was a team effort," Crawford said. "I've been in game like that before and it's either you step up or lay down, and the guys all stepped up."
Charlie Villanueva scored 21 points and grabbed 13 boards for the Bucks, who have dropped five of six. Michael Redd also scored 21 points, and Bell added 17 and seven assists for Milwaukee.
"That's just the way it goes sometimes," Bell said. "Being up 15 points in the third quarter, we were just not able to shut down on them and get this win."
The teams played neck-and-neck from the opening tip, and the Bucks took a slim 50-48 lead into the intermission.
Milwaukee pulled away midway through the third quarter. Trailing by two, the Bucks exploded for a 23-4 surge. Villanueva kicked it off with consecutive baskets, and closed the stretch with consecutive baskets, the second posting the Bucks to an 81-64 lead with 2:53 left in the third.
The Knicks scored the last 10 points of the quarter, though, and their 15-0 run bridged the final two quarters, slicing a 17-point Bucks lead to two. Milwaukee pushed its lead back to 93-86 with 6:14 left, but Lee scored back- to-back baskets, and Crawford drained a three to tie the game at 93-93 with 3:45 left.
