NBA Game Summary - Dallas at New Jersey

Final Score: Dallas 82 - New Jersey 101

East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - Vince Carter scored 29 points and pulled down nine rebounds, and the Nets got another great all-around performance from Jason Kidd in a 101-82 rout of the Dallas Mavericks.

Kidd came up shy of his 100th career triple-double, but ended with 13 points, 14 assists and six rebounds, as New Jersey used 21 straight points bridging the second and third quarters to post its second straight victory. Richard Jefferson totaled 19 points and Sean Williams chipped in 15 as the Nets beat Dallas for just the second time in the last 15 meetings.

Dirk Nowitzki had 21 points to lead the Mavericks, who had a three-game winning streak snapped. Josh Howard had 16 points for Dallas, which blew an 11-point second-quarter lead.

"We're not that good where we can just throw the ball all over the gym and wait for the fourth quarter to turn it on," Mavericks coach Avery Johnson said. "We're not that good. We have to play every minute."

Dallas led 22-21 after the opening quarter, but a surge by the Mavs early in the second expanded the margin to 36-25 following Jose Barea's layup with 6:43 left until halftime. However, the Nets came back with a 30-4 scoring spree.

Included in that was 21 straight points. Nowitzki's jumper with 2:19 left in the half had Dallas ahead 40-34, but the Mavs didn't score again until 9:01 left in the third.

During that time, the Mavs missed nine straight shots. Kidd's three-pointer put New Jersey ahead 42-40 with a minute left in the half. Jefferson's two foul shots ended the half for a 46-40 spread and Carter's shot from beyond the arc ended the spree.

"That's normally the point where we struggle," Jefferson said. "We just gutted it out with the defense on Dirk and our young guys doing a good job on him."

Jason Terry finally hit a jumper to snap Dallas' scoring skid, but the Nets continued to stretch their lead as Carter hit a driving layup for a 65-46 lead with 5:13 left in the third.

"The second quarter we had some trouble when they slipped into the zone," Nowitzki said. "Against the zone, if you shoot long shots that's going to put them in transition. We had some stupid turnovers in the second that gave them layups. We lost focus there."

The Nets led 77-61 going into the fourth and the highlights kept coming for New Jersey as Jefferson threw down a reverse jam on an alley-oop pass from Kidd for an 86-69 lead with 6:41 left.

Williams then got in the act, also the recipient of an alley-oop dunk off another feed from Kidd. Williams blocked a shot from Nowitzki at the other end, and Carter came up with a steal and cruised in for a dunk and a 90-71 lead with 5:32 remaining.

Brandon Bass had 13 points and Terry 11 for Dallas, which shot 36.5 percent.

Carter was the recipient of a Bass elbow to the face with 8:23 left until halftime. Carter went to the floor and left the game, but came back three minutes later.

"It's one of those things coming, but you can't move fast enough," Carter said. "I was a little dizzy taking my time up and I didn't want to fall back down. I was a little sore, but I wanted to go back out there."
