Final Score: Sacramento 94 - Memphis 107
Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Hakim Warrick scored 24 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, both season-highs, to lead the Memphis Grizzlies in a 107-94 victory over the Sacramento Kings at FedExForum.
Rudy Gay poured in 21 points for the Grizzlies, who put the brakes on a six- game skid and recorded a win for the first time since trading Pau Gasol to the Lakers on Feb. 1. Juan Carlos Navarro added 19 points, while Mike Miller gave 17 and 10 boards. Darko Milicic tallied 14 points and eight rebounds, and Mike Conley contributed 11 points.
Kevin Martin dropped a game-high 33 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Kings, who lost for the second straight game. Mike Bibby and Ron Artest each netted 18 points, with Artest also dishing out seven helpers. Brad Miller totaled 10 points, 13 boards and six assists.
The Kings held a 34-25 lead after the first quarter and a 59-54 advantage at the break.
The third quarter lead see-sawed until the Kings pulled within one, 80-79, on Artest and Brad Miller back-to-back layups with under two minutes remaining.
However, Milicic connected on two straight buckets and Gay drained two free throws to close out the third frame. The mini-run sent the Grizzlies into the final 12 minutes of play with an 86-79 cushion.
Memphis opened the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run that put the club ahead 94-79. After Navarro hit two from the foul line, Warrick scored the next six points of the run.
Sacramento closed the gap considerably on a Bibby three-pointer from the left wing. The trey capped a 7-0 Kings run that pulled Sacramento within 95-88 with just under six minutes on the clock.
However, a Conley layup and Miller 26-foot three-ball opened up a 100-88 Memphis lead with 4:33 left to play.
"I thought the energy was bad," Kings head coach Reggie Theus said. "Not belittling their situation, but their team is struggling, and it's before All- Star Break. There are a lot of different factors and you have to be professional and come gear your own energy to do your job. I think all of us failed in doing our job tonight."
The Kings were unable to cut their deficit below 10 points and the Grizzlies cruised to an easy victory.
"We've had some close games and couldn't finish down the stretch," Mike Miller said. "It was good to get a win, especially with the fans that came out. It's good to celebrate a win with those guys."
